New DUI Program is Called a Success

Lancaster, PA - Officials in Lancaster are calling their new DUI program a success.

The DROP, or DUI Repeat Offender Program, was launched last January.

The program’s goal is to keep repeat offenders from drinking until their case is seen in court.

Offenders have to wear this device called a Scram around their ankle.

If they drink alcohol, the device will sense it and notify the authorities.

More than 300 individuals were put in the DROP this past year and of those only 19 drank alcohol.

The average Scram client in 2015 wore the bracelet for about 100 days.
